By International Director Warren Janzen — I’ve been asking the Lord for a “word” for 2018. Last year, he gave me “breakthrough.” I was nervous and quiet about that word at first, wondering if anything significant would happen. It gave me something to pray into, and something to watch for. God graciously opened my eyes to his activity, and through many of our missionaries, I heard stories of breakthroughs happening among unreached peoples all around the world. There are many more breakthroughs waiting to happen, and I continue to pray for them.
As we enter into 2018, the word that has been impressed upon my heart is “move.” As in people moving from death to life, from slavery to freedom. As in God moving in our circumstances and in the hearts of rulers. As in the Christmas story that we just celebrated.
The Gospel of Luke reports: “In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world … and everyone went to his own town to register.”
God moved the heart of the Roman Emperor so that he could move a young couple from Nazareth to Bethlehem. God moved a star so that some wise men could recognize and celebrate the coming of our King.
We serve a God who moves. Hearts, stars, people — nothing is too big or too small. I am watching for what he will move in 2018. I am asking him to remove some specific barriers to the gospel. And I am preparing to be ready to move when he does, to move with him.
I invite all of SEND’s missionaries, and indeed everyone who follows Jesus as Lord, to pray into this word with me, to ask God to move within your circumstances and to prepare to move with him. Let’s watch and work and celebrate the many ways in which God will move in 2018.
If God is moving you …
